Parliament Square horror as man douses himself in flammable liquid

A MAN has been detained under the Mental Health Act after apparently dousing himself with a flammable liquid in Parliament Square.

Officers from the Met Police became aware of concerns for the man at Old Carriage Gates, in Westminster at 10.44am on Tuesday (October 1).

The man, who reportedly had a lighter, was sprayed with a fire extinguisher.

There are no reports of anyone suffering any injuries.

Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, Huw Merriment wrote on Twitter: “Man next to me at Parliament’s carriage gates appears to have poured (what smells like) petrol on himself. Incredibly brave response from police, who are now helping him.”
